Got the block top face sparkly clean, cleaned up the head studs and refitted the head. All torqued down and waiting for the rocker clearances to be set and thermostat housing and heater take off to be fitted.

Fitted a new alternator but re-fitted the old water pump as I broke the new one  The old one wasn't leaking so fingers crossed it doesn't start.

I think I'll take the oil cooler off and put the standard pipe back on.

Ah yes, but your Weber will still be running (and in tune) long after that SU has worn its throttle shaft out..

With a little more engineering R&D an SU would have been a much more reliable carb than it is.

/flame suit on

Spent far too much money on parts for the clubman.

And wrote another shopping list for all the little bits I need - Off to Karkraft tomorrow to lighten my wallet once more.

Packaged up my steering rack and sent it down to Dr Mini. I wonder what a Mini with out scary steering wheel play feels like?

Raised the suspension from ghetto minimum to something reasonable thanks to hilos and fitted the new shiny wheel nuts of the way out. Also sanded back some more filler in some pretty annoying areas. Getting there. Hopefully not too much further until its painted. That's what's holding us back the most. Would like to see it go to the muster but might be pushing our luck.

I have been driving the Clubman this week!! I have put the BMW X1 to the back of the shed (Behind the Cooper S with no windows and no hoodlining, getting ready for muster! ) , and driving the Clubman to and from work, and taking to my parents house build out of town .... Doing it the world of good! First outing since the mini muster!

Got half way through building my "spaced" grill. Seeing as I used clubman accessories in a round nose mini some things stick out the grill so my solution was to push the grill forward.

The grill was the worst one I had in the shed so I'm not to concerned if it didn't work. I just cut it in half sideways, shaped a 50mm metal strap to match the grill shape and then trimmed the edges to match the curve of the grill, weld it all together, grind in smooth and give it a paint.

Got my Bosch planetary geared starter from Convertible Mini today.
I'll bung it on the 1360 in the morning and see if it kicks back during cold cranking when the Pulsar dizzy fires @ 20°BTDC on the 1st compression stroke. :P
It should have enough balls to avoid this (which has previously killed 2 or 3 Lucas starter pinions)

[edit] All finished and it spins like a top. Much better than the Pulsar one I used a while back.
Also, the solenoid is underneath, it's well away from fouling the dizzy (and an oil cooler if you run one).
