Hi all,

Looking to get a car cover for the mini as the carport/garage that it is in is not sealed from dust etc. It doesn't need to be water proof as its indoors, just to keep the car clean.

Any recommendations for brands, suppliers etc etc

My tips as my poor mini is outdoors:
The smallest covers at supercrap/auto pro etc are too big. I had to tie 2 knots in the back of a cheapie one to stop it catching the wind, and this was a "small", mine also was not doing too well in the sun, started to flake very quickly
The fitted one from minisport which I think is a storm force and feels great in terms of quality is just a tiny bit too small for a clubby, I wrestle it on fine and it fits well eventually. Breaths nicely too, i never find condensation under it, but being very snug is a real b*gger to get it on properly. If you have the front out of line by an inch or two it can be a real ordeal. I imagine with a roundy being a bit shorter it'd be fine.

I bought a $30 medium one from K mart to cover the moke.
It's mostly water proof unless it really buckets down, doesn't fit so well but that's what the straps are for.


If it's in a garage, where there is no wind, and no water, anything will do really.

My K mart one has lived outside since I got it about 12 months ago.
The only damaged bits on it are where I kept melting holes in it with the exhaust

although I have gone back and asked for a bigger cover for the project mini due to the body kit and the 13x7 wheels. They have standard sizes and will also measure and make a custom fit cover. And they have a variety of materials and fabrics.
This is the HSV with an indoors stretch cover.

I really need to sort one out for my Moke.

Whilst building my car, it lived in a garage with the worst possible (dry) conditions which included lots of dust and paint spray. I got a really big soft wollen blanket and threw that over the car, then a supercheap cover over that. The blanket gave a scratch resistance to the paint, plus if there was any grinding nearby that would burn through the cover, the blanket would stop it before it got to paint.

If there will be a breeze make sure it's a nice snug fit, a loose one will move around and wear the corners / edges of the paing in time.

I have a tailored one, i'll see if i can find a pic a bit later.

My wife made one up for me from some Calico sheet. There are photos in the how to sticky on "Drive on tilt ramps"

On one of my other cars I use a grey fabric one bought from one of the auto shops, and to be honest it still lets dust through the cover. It seems any of the ones that "breathe" will probably do that.

The ultimate of course would be a "Carcoon" like Hanra's.

I can give the Thumbs up for Historic Car Covers.
I've had it for about a year, made from a very light breathable fabric with provision for ctr mount roof aerial if needed. Cover is secured with elastic which is still in good nick. ( as opposed to my Ebay boat cover). Thelady makes them when ordered so it takes a couple of weeks but well worth it. Good Luck
