Hi SLO998
thoes buttons are made out of tivar not teflon, they claim it to be as good but it is no where near as good, teflon is a very bright white,(snow white)
make them out of that and you won't have a problem.

Is this project progressing or is the car just sitting under the tree at home, because you have been distracted by bright shiny objects?????

Well I guess its time for a little update, I wont give away to much just yet as there is a few really cool things to come soon now that I have started to continued the project but here in a little insight..

I had all but stopped even looking at the mini after the problems I had getting this motor running and then because the flywheel had a slight warp to it, it was shuddering the clutch badly and in the end killed the clutch release bearing,, So I have only started ‘playing’ with it again in the last few weeks since about a week after hay last year!

In my defense did buy a new toy though in between..

Image

Lets be honest, it is a BIG change from my other blue car and I have to say after having this it is very hard to even think about spending more money on the mini again but here I am.. Gotta love the old things I guess!

So the motor has been running really well with a weber on it, even started to run E85 fuel in it towards the end. It is out again ATM to change the dished pistons to flat tops to suit the new head  Not that, that has gone quite to plane but nothing that cant be over come. The flywheel Has been changed to Swiftune's billet Feather Light Flywheel and Backplate and is just over a 1KG lighter again then what i was running in it.

Image

The gear box has always been a concern of mine given the power I hope to make with the motor, so this was next on the list to sort out. I don’t think anything better/stronger can be done now then what is in it :) Think Quaife from Swiftune 8)

Image

Now just have to get it running and drivable for hay in under two weeks!

Nathan.

Ok so here is something else to show the project is still progressing all be it VERY slowly! The new dog box is in the car and is a lot of fun to drive. Finished hay without any problems to report. Very easy to get use to changing gear, but still feels like murder not using the clutch even tho it changes so easy! The 1st gear is very tall as we knew so is hard to get off the line slow and takes a bit of a launch and away you go

I think the car is making good power for a 998! Here is two dyno sheets, the first one was the 998 as it was built in this thread, the second is the re build to increase the comp by changing the pistons to flat top rather then the dished ones.

BP98 with 45mm weber and 9:1 comp.
Image

The seconed one is how the car sits ATM.

re-rebuilt 998 + a little bit more then last time.., E85 with 40mm weber and 11.8:1 comp.
Image

Peak power is almost the same but the low to mid is a lot more, lots nicer to drive.

The next phase is now here, this will make the turbo injection a lot better and easyer to set up!

Well I'll put two Iphone pics up for now and see what you think 8) Head is off getting flow tested ATM so will report back after I get it back

Interested to hear why you wouldn't get their bmw cylinder head conversion for less money and more power?

If a pic tells a 1000 words 5 pics must say a lot! It was started for the first time on Sunday at 'Minis at the mill' seemed a fitting place for it :D

It will still be a few weeks befor it's turned and driving but it's sooooooo close now after all this time! Words can't thank Ben 92 enough for all his help getting it to where it is, it would all still be in a box if it wasn't for him thanks again mate :D

Thanks Nathan.
