Hey Guys,
Driving to work today the dash lights stopped working and the amp turned off. Was only about 1km from work so kept driving and was going to look when I got in. Got about 500 metres away and had to slow down to turn. turned and then splutter splutter and died.
The engine will still turn over and catch but then when the key is not turned to start it dies again. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but am sure it's something I have done as I have put some speakers and an amp in it the other day.

I am thinking it could be something like:
Bad earth
Fuse popped
A loose wire earthing out.
Something has come loose.

I will have a look at lunch time but any suggestions would be great.

I still love my mini. No matter what she does to embarass me. Pushing it down commercial road near the alfred isn't the best way to start the day!

Disconnect your amp (you should have a dedicated fuse for it) and unplug the switch on circuit from the HU. if the problem happened after that it might be one of them.

Make sure all connections are done properly and safely, so none of that 'twist and leccy tape 'em' type stuff.

Check any wiring in the areas you were working incase somethings been cut, squashed, or similar.

Amp has it's own fuse to the battery. I am not running a head unit so ran the remote wire from the acc side of the fuse block. Will check it all out at lunch and report back. Did a bunch of soldering to get it all working so no twisting and leccy tape that I know of. I don't have a multi meter at work so tested the fuses with a bulb and some batteries. Both are lighting the bulb. May still be stuffed though. Will have a good look at lunch time. Hopefully my bosses don't mind if it has a sleep over if I can't fix it in an hour.

so I had a look at lunch. I had unplugged the rubber connector that held the bullet connectors from the ignition when I was wiring in the speakers as I wanted to clean it all up. It was plugged in but not a great fit I guess. seems that the ACC wire had come loose/not plugged in properly. YAY
Driving again and amp/my newest work wasn't (really) the cause!

Easy fix thats good, other thing would be to watch for is anywhere you run live wires through a steel panel: make sure you have a grommet there.

I like reading stories like this, nothing better than finding an easy fix
