DA9jeff: Does this apply to all makes of 3 point harnesses or just Willans? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, it just wasnt clear in your post.

There was something shonky about the Willans 3 point... I think from memory the stitching on the 3 point join was faulty & the FIA banned them from use.

Willans only.

There was a cab driver killed in Goulburn last year, she was hit in an offset head on crash in a 60kph zone, everyone else got out and walked away, the taxi driver hit her head on the windscreen pillar and died in hospital.

Can anyone think of other things taxi drivers can't use? apart from seat belts, air-conditioning and deodorant.

reminds me of the cabbie dressed in the sailors cap + safari suit that was terrifying myself and several mates as he tore down Parramatta road weaving in and out of the traffic, then turns and asks if we mind he puts some music on. Our response was whatever keeps you focussed on not killing us is fine. So he grabs a tape out of the safari suit inserts it in to the tape deck and my life flashed before my eyes to the tune of ......

Adam. hence a taxi driver is not legally obligated to wear seatbelts. All the subrules are there for anyone who wants to see. Interestingly passengers in emergency vehicles such as Police cars do not need to wear belts either.

Now back on topic.

Dennis, yes I am aware taxi drivers don't need to wear a seat belt.
The question is why, not is it legal.

Why

Why?

Taxi drivers don't need to wear belts because they are always getting out of the car to open the door for you and put your luggage in the boot - just like they used to when I was a kid.

Re full Harness seatbelts - I heard somewhere that there is a bit of a catch 22 presently in that CAMS will only approve 3" webbing or larger, but RTA will only allow 2" to be legal for the road. Can anyone confirm this?
