Under section 2 of the Road Rules 2008 (NSW):

2) The driver must wear the seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened unless the driver is:
(a) reversing the vehicle, or

(b) exempt from wearing a seatbelt under rule 267.

HOWEVER,

(2–1) This rule does not apply to:

(b) the driver of a motor vehicle being operated as a taxi-cab under the authority of a licence under the Passenger Transport Act 1990.

Again Dennis, this just says "Taxi drivers don't have to wear one"

This is what I was fishing for:

Sorry, I thought providing the law was the answer. You were after a hypothetical explanation to the law :?:

Just because they dont have to doesnt mean all of them dont.

The only proviso to Taxi Drivers not wearing seat belts is that the Drivers Air bag must be de-activated...can/will lose your head in an acco when the air bag goes off when no belt worn.

So, they would rather stick their head through a laminated windscreen? (2 layers of plate glass + 1 layer of plastic)
They are more stupid than I thought.
Maybe they didn't see the safety horror photos of yesteryear.

Why don't they fit taxi airbags of USA specs then, Yanks seem to survive their airbags going bang! with or without their seatbelt done up.

Not all of them are 2GB/2UE listeners. The one we were in over the weekend played arabic music tapes. At least I think it was music - the only words I heard was Allah akabah said repeatedly.
