I like modified Pulsar dizzys, they are more reliable than electronicked Lucas ones. They don't seem to let the smoke out if you leave the ign on.
Hitachi smoke = stronger magic than Lucas+Chinese module smoke. :P

Vac advance is just an economy device- at full throttle they do SFA.
Most small euro performance engines of the 60s & 70s don't use them (eg. Cooper S, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, etc).
The smog Minis sold here from 1976-1978 didn't have any vac advance, either.

You can't easily run it with a Weber or Dellorto carb, they have no suitable connection for it at the throttle butterfly.

Racers remove it as it's just something to go wrong, and the breaker plate and timing is more stable without it.

Yes, they sell both points & elec types. Tell them what engine size & cam spec and they will make a new Bosh distributor with an advance curve to suit your engine.

Vac advance is just an economy device....

Yep that's about it ... if you're happy to pay the equivalent of $2/l for fuel, you don't need one...

Cheers, Ian

Any opinions on the Aldon yellow dizzy? My engine is a fairly similar spec to the OP, bored to 1310cc, twin 1.5" SU's, mild road cam 1.5:1 roller rockers etc.
