Well done! I was watching both of those auctions and thought the second one was a bargain.

That price on the first one is astounding.

That too me is confirmation the world has gone completely mental. It's a piece of plastic. Oh but it's a very rare piece of plastic, dug from the earth in the late wasteolithic era by a tribe of three armed, virginal, peasant Pygmies.

Gecko corrected himself, greed isn't good.

Good job on the second one though

Are the 21 bidders chasing the same thing that would come out of an Austin 7 (63). If so I had better have a look at our"s . (Body past it)

You may want to have a look at the quality of it. The repro ones I have seen are made of a thick plastic similar to the Mk2. There is a guy in the UK who has made a replica of the Mk 1 binnacle that is perfect but again it isnt cheap. the original one was very very thin and hence the reason they break. You get what you pay for.

I paid $180 quid for a new old stock mk 1 heater tap. You can buy a replica for $30 aussie. Again you get what you pay for.

Thanks Greg, I will see.. I have ordered it.. They say its thin. Anything would be better than my one that has 5 big cracks trough the front of it..

I shall report back, they have 1 left now.

I modified a MK2 dash for my Cooper S. Just took a few hours of carefully cutting and comparing with the old one to make it fit. Probably not concourse but you need to look carefully to note the difference. And its thicker and has no cracks. My old one ended up in many pieces. I have also had to replace the cream inner plastic surround because it had cracked and broken.

Unless you are going for trophys, the modern replica (albeit thicker) is probably a better cheaper alternative.

All the mint NOS ones about for mega dollars are so brittle, it will just be a matter of time before they crack and you wave goodbye to your investment.

Yes, you do get what you pay for, $180 is still a reasonable amount and should deliver something quality given it is only plastic.

Another Aust retailer was wanting nearly $500 for this item.
