Greetings All.
When starting off in my 850, I notice there is a binding/grunting sound from the front. (not loud) Can't pick what it's doing.
Thought it may be the brake shoes "chaffing", as it's related to the wheels turning. At around 30kph and over it's not noticeable.
The wheel bearings were new. The CV's looked (?) OK.
I've done heaps of worn CV's on newer cars, the ole click click, especially on hard lock.

Anyone have this type of noise, could it simply be wear in the CV? I don't know the CV joint (s) age, I simply checked re-greased and thought they were reasonably tight.

might be brakes binding - put your hand on the wheels after you go for a drive and see if they're hot

Was thinking down that line. Checked a couple times and no excessive heat. Shoes look OK. Might 'Bite the bullit and do a couple new joints.

Could be the clip on the cv boot rubbing on the inside of the upright?

My first van (roundie) had been converted from remote to rod change, so it also had the left engine steadybar fitted.
The bracket bolted to the body eventually broke and aside from the engine moving around a lot it made an unusual noise which is what you described, like an unusual cv noise.
My theory was that under load the angle change caused a noise from an inner joint, once i fixed the bracket no more noise.

Does it still have rubber couplings? May be worth checking if it does.

Just on a side line regarding noisey cv joints. If they're 'clicky' and not totally nackered, you can knock joints off each axle and swap left to right and visa versa. Then they only click in reverse and thats not often. Obviously cleaned and regreased with good boots fitted.

Just got home. I am running cross joints, but they are the new type (not all that old)

Need more investigation. This will be Saturdays project.

Never even thought about swap left to right. Brilliant idea PeterB. It would be a good way to check if their the culprits. If it did stop the moan, I could then do a fresh pair.
