What limits are placed on your usage? I know here is SA you can only drive it a max of 90 days per year and you must maintain a log book etc

Same here in Vic.
It works well for my van as I don't drive it that much anyway but when/if the moke goes on, it may prove a bit restrictive as it's my daily.
As for my bike, well, it couldn't be a more perfect system. 8)

NSW doesn't have the 90 day logbook system here and is unlikely to ever get it.

Some clubs here only allow use on club sanctioned events, or private use within an 8km? radius for testing purposes. And of course travel to/from a place of repair.
Some clubs also make you wait 12 months before getting your plates... why, I've not heard a good reason yet.

Some other clubs are a bit more laid back and allow use to your `special events' as long as the club's registrar is notified and he puts it in their book.

It also depends on what you want to do with your mini. CRS is not for everyone. In NSW, without igniting previous arguments, it is only worth it if you are prepared to live within the rules that apply to your club. it is not simply "cheap rego"

I'm co-registrar for my (non-mini) club in Sydney, but I had my mini on their scheme wheni had it. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have via PM.

I'm puzzled as to why NSW can't replicate the Vic scheme?
Seems to me to be a much better scheme as it would allow me to use my club plated car for a few other outings such as Ausmini cruises

You can blame the RTA, insurance companies and other vested interests (including major car clubs).
It's all about $$$$, ka-chinggggggggg.

Yep, it may puzzle me why Vic Roads made the change to the Logbook system but I ain't complainin'!
As with other clubs my local club had issues with the sudden influx of new members joining for the "cheap rego". The club could have easily sat back and taken their money knowing that the attendance to club events would not reflect the higher membership but decided to change the annual fee from about $60 to around $300. There is now a system in place that you need to attend at least 6 events for the year to bring your fee back down to the $60.
It seems to be working but now we need a bigger meet place....

I was more concerned about interstate events and attending other club events which are not run by the club of registration. I want to be able to use my mini as much as possible to attend events . I don't want to use it everyday so I think historic plates would suit me fine I want to be covered tho if I go to other events e.g grafton to hay

Cheers dan

that's a good approach - at present my local club are taking the money, we're had a small increase of attendees, but not many. I've organised a couple of runs to try to get them out of the woodwork, but no showers

there are definitely cars around just using it for cheap rego and I hope they don't bring the system down for the rest of us

For NSW, as long as the car looks the part, and you can produce some legitimate documentation that you're going to a relevant event of some description, then you won't have any issues.

Relevant documentation for Hay would be your club newsletter listing Hay in the calendar, a signed letter from your club registrar saying you're going to a sanctioned event, or a copy of the Hay weekend programme (which you can get in time for the event if you ask Declan to put you on the mailing list)

The Toyota Club of Australia (Victoria) where I am a member had an influx of wookies looking for cheap rego. So the rules now are:

- No club rego applications for your first three months of membership.
- You must attend at least one club meeting and introduce yourself before applying.
- You must attend at least one event or meeting with each club permit vehicle per year and have your logbook initialled by a commitee member next to the logbook entry for that day. Failure to meet this rule means your next renewal will be denied.

Cheers,

Daniel, it varies from club to club. There is a base set of rules produced by the RMS and CMC, then each club takes that framework and administers it with local adaptations. In my club for example, you could drive your car to Hay (or interstate) provided it was either on the club calendar as Simon said; or having notified the club registrar of your movements beforehand.

Adaptations can include - only calendared events and service runs - ie no additional notified runs; each car keeps their own logbook for movements including club calendared events. Clubs can have limited people inspect the cars to sign off eligibility annually on an inspection day(s) or like we do, ask the person to get a pink slip.

Thanks for the replys and information . I will have to ask the club I'm joining about their rules. I have full rego to may next year so I have time to decide wether or not they are worth having. Either way I will still want to be part of the club
