OK dumb question time.

What size battery is recommended for a 68 Morris? Mine didn't come with one when I got it so I went looking for one today. Sounds easy right?

Nope, when I can find reals Mini's in the listing I get results from 300cca to about 620cca

What do you guys recommend?

I have a 550cca NRMA battery in my 64 mini.
Fits perfectly but the terminals are on the wrong side so i can't use a battery strap :/

Bigger is better if it fits, it'll crank the motor for years more than a little one will (assuming both are std lead acid type).
Most batteries come with the terminals available both ways round (ie you can get std, or reversed).
I had a 550CCA Exide (Land Cruiser or Falcon one) for 5+ years until it died, currently I have a Lion 580? CCA one because they gave me a 20% Seniors discount.

Is there any real advantage from the Silver or Gold versions? (other than they are sealed units?)

I use a 550cca Delcor battery in the mini, the valiant and the daewoo. They last - the daewoo has done 360,000km and 13 years with the same battery. They fit nicely in the box.

13 years, that's amazing! I would never have expected one to last that long... a Daewoo I mean

As mentioned above most batteries are available with the terminal either way round.
Exide used to sell 220c and 220d for the mini.
c vs d was just which side the negative terminal was on.
Full width of battery box but skinny.
The 350 to 550cca are the larger battery that will fill the batery box nicely.
350cca will start a six cylinder nicely.
Later model cars with lots of ancillaries use the 550cca batteries for the energy reserves not just cold cranking amps.
The N50 if i remember is a little taller than a standard car battery
and would be fitted to small trucks and diesel.
If you know your charge rate is within optimum levels
(13.5 to 14.2) a sealed battery is okay.
However i prefer the standard type with caps as you can top up
the level with water if the battery boils dry due to over charging.
If the car sits for long periods the charge levels drop and lead plates start to
sulphate and warp.
Always try to keep a battery charged to get a good life out of it.
A hydrometer is an excellent tool for checking the condition of a battery.
It will highlight a dead cell or low charge overall.

Haha, yeah I keep hearing about how rubbish they are, they're supposed to blow up around 200,000km. But this car has been amazing. Apart from standard service items and 2 wheel bearings, we haven't replaced any parts on it, and it has never broken down.
