hee hee,,, Aint that the truth???

The last one that i went to look at for a fella (i was in Byron havin a surf at the time funny enough & the car was at Bangalow so i met with him in 5 mins :-) ) & it all "Looked" sweet... until i "REALLY" started plodding around, in & under the whole thing

it just had this "smell" about it , just a feeling or a hunch you could say... so i checked closer & in more places than i normally would because it just didn`t have that "Ring" to it

Low & behold it was a replica after all,,, under the wiper scuttle panel & both door pillars were cut & shut items & then the list went on & on... & needless to say the (then) new owner wasn`t really a happy chappy at all

the previous owner had 25 years of documented proof of ownership & had shown a history of the car being in that condition when he bought it etc etc etc

so,,, no one is going to convince me that a car "May" be genuine just because it`s been that way for 25 years ... or looked like it was 25 years old ,,, or "maybe" that was a factory job,,, or even after proof of ownership of 25 years

still doesn`t prove diddly squat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

proof is in the pudding :-) & not many people have the right eye-ball these days,,, not many people at all,,, especially after i "know" a pile of people who "Should" know a replica from a real one & yet they were fooled too.

don`t count your chickens people,,, how many were made & how many are out there today???? :-) :-) :-)

absolutely right Matt. I have burst some poor bastards bubble more times than I can remember when I have had to reveal to them the car they just bought isnt what they thought. I feel very confident in saying this one is the real thing tho. Everything is as it should be, and probably the most important thing when starting a resto is making sure you have the correct base to work with. My fathers ex Mk2 recently changed hands for 27k. Totally unrestored but extremely original and in great condition. People will pay good money for a sound base. I expect this thing will fetch some pretty good money. Ron Williams predicted $20k apparently. Will be interesting to see if it goes that high.

Correct!! My understanding from pics is around August 67 they changed to 2 screw but, as with everything else with BMC its not a definitive date.
Also flares were a recall item in some states and retro fitted to many MK1's

August 67 for two screw tail lights is a new one on me, I'll take it on board with the jury still out.

My understanding with reference to the flares is that SA was the first to require them followed by WA. The type of flares used were the ones on this car which were sourced by BMC, before they decided that a new and full production line flare design was required and that followed with the ones we know about. So it is said that there are MK1s (and Mk1.5s for that matter i suppose) which were fitted with flares.

I have never heard of any of those earlier wider flares being delivered to NSW, or other states for that matter.

Can anyone provide some surety on the flares and 2-screw tail lights?

Maybe this has been around Ausmini before and maybe it should be a new post.

I should be watching a movie or thinking about sailing tomorrow.

I concur on 1967 for the 2 screw tail lights. These were made by Lucas Australia and were fitted to help achieve the Australian content rules.

Sorry Matt for the typo....my spelling doesnt say much for our education system.

Deleted the post as I realised I shouldnt get on here and post when I have had a less than perfect day. Just get annoyed having to justify my answers. I may not know much in life but I do have a somewhat disturbing passion for collecting info and memorabilia to help me restore my own cars. Happy to share that info if I can provide it.

I would go mid 67 for the tail lights.

A few NSW Coopers S's had flares before the Mk2 came out. It was not compulsory but they were available.
My 68 had them when it was being raced in 69.

That is correct, and around the same time they changed the seat patterns,
