Did anybody see any Minis or MINIS at autosalon last weekend in Melbourne.

We decided not to enter this time around and we didn't get to even go and have a look.

Are you going to do the september autosalon? Or have you given up on them?

Not sure what I'll do by then. I also had an invite to the Sydney autosalon but have a wedding that day in Melb.

Wasn't really happy with the organisation last time we went to the Melb. show.

Our next trip will be in July to Custom Auto Expo/Motorex in Sydney. Much better organised and great crowds.

There are so many shows but you can only attend so many. Have an invite to the Extreme Machine show in S.A. in late October so would like to maybe go there as well. Then there is the NSW Mini Car Club show in Sept. then Wagga in Oct. then Melb. in Nov and Minis in the Mill Nov as well. Then there is the Showoff show which has been moved from the Melb. Showgrounds to Melb. Exhibition Centre.

Won't be able to go to all of them so will have to make some choices.

That's for you to decide in your own time.
I wasn't particularly impressed with the last autosalon. It seems like it costs more and more to get in for less and less cars each time. I'd also seen most of them at the show before that anyway.

Actually they said at the last autosalon that it was the largest showin the world ever outside of Japan. They are getting too greedy now having several shows in each state each year. People can't make that many changes to their cars so hence you see them again and again.

I couldn't believe how much it cost to just get in. Each time as you say, it seems to be getting more expensive.

Even when you enter your car you only get one entrance pass. That meant that we had to pay for John and the two girls each day when we went.

Which would have been just over a $100, right?

Can't really remember, but each day John or I would use the free one and then have to pay for one adult and two children plus two car parks once you get there and on Sunday you couldn't both take a car in so one of us had to get public transport and that's not cheap either.

Expensive but of course it was worth it just to get a Mini in there and watch the faces of the public and hear all of their positive reactions when they see you there. Helps to promote the Mini to a very large amount of people and that's always worthy it.

If that can get in, surely a small group of us could be at the next one
(even if it only promotes the VMCI and ausmini!)

It was in a club group. If a club or org has 10 or whatever cars that comply with being under a certain age and have EFI, then you can get one in that doesn't.

what was the number plate?

We'll have to get a few SPI Minis that comply then we could maybe have a club stand?

"OBUBUO" was the number plate.

That would be sweet if we could get a club stand hapning at the auto salon!

Problem there would be how many qualifying cars would we have to have and how many non qualifying cars could we have?

I'd like to see a group of none to mildly modified minis getting more attention than some of WRX's and things everyone's seen before.
We'll need Mutant as the main attention grabber, Speadfreaks and Stainless' car for Sound competition, Jans SPI's for modern cars and a BMW mini or 2, then we see how many unmodified's we can get in. I will if there's room.

There would have to be like 30 qualifying Mini's to get 3 non qualifying ones in. Not good... Even with getting new MINI's, it's still ALOT!
