I've started on a rod change box now. How do I lock the gears in one of them?

Remove diff housing,
remove detent ball spring and sleeve from under RH side cover,
rotate the selector inside anti-clockwise to clear all the bellcranks,
use a screwdriver to push the outer synchro sleeves into 1st and 4th gears from above.
