Is Silverdale Hill under houses yet? We used to use Pitt Town air strip for autocrosses but I guess that's gone also. No wonder car clubs have died, there are no venues to run anything.

Silverdale was on PP and run by an enthusiast....unlikely it is built out...anybody know?? a great little hill.....
MiniK lives in Silverdale, and doesn't know where it is..
Guess he's a bit young!

[quote="ausminis4uwell why did they put the new pit complex in ? a bit of a waste of time wasnt it ?[/quote]

demands of the v8supercar series i suppose. they say if you want a round you have to have these facilities...........after next year i believe they are not guaranteed a round and the housing dollar is just to good to knock back

an idea mooted recently was to get some land and build another circuit to replace Oran, maybe somewhere north, but to sell access on a timeshare basis. personally i thought it was not too good an idea. What do others think?

Amaroo was sold because the ARDC was in financial problems. It has houses on a fair bit of the track but the flat bit where the pits, the lake and the grid were are a park. That bit is on flood prone land.
I raced in the last meeting at Amaroo.

Catalina is not being used any more. The council has spent the last 30 years trying to work out what to do with the place and they gave control to the local aboriginal people so that they didn't have to make a decision.
I had the fastest time in a HQ at Catalina.

Silverdale was closed after a section of track was washed away. The owner was thinking of closing it and the damage made the decision for him.

Oran Park will be a big housing estate shortly. The new pit buildings are designed to be moved and they will be moved to the "New" Oran Park which is supposed to be built at Wilton.

Lakeside was bought by the Local Council and they closed it. They claimed the track was polluting the water in the lake but they never proved it!

Surfers was bought by the gold coures next door to stop the noise! It sat unused for a lot of years while the land was a turf farm. The land was flood prone and this was what saved it for a long while but it is now a canal estate. They dug canals and used the dirt to raise the land above the flood level.

Warwick Farm is nearly all gone.

Sandown will be going soon.

A park? Do you mean somewhere you can go for a drive and have a picnic lunch? I went past on a Sunday and teh big gates were closed...and all I saw was a resturant. If it is a park that I can take the family for a lunch, I will head back out there next weekend.

By park I mean a bit of land with long grass and no houses! It was set aside to be used as a park but I don't think it will ever be one. A few members of the ARDC had their ashes tipped into the lake after they died, so it was a condition of sale that they lake had to remain.
Don't go in the front gates as they do not continue to the track. If you take the street before Amaroo (coming from Windsor Rd) Joylyn Rd and then turn right into Amaroo Park dr. When you reach a bend in Amaroo Park rd you are on the main straight just up from the control tower.
All the track surface had been removed and you have to look hard to see any signs of the track.

Macca, Hillclimb drive runs straight across the old dirt circuit and ends up on top of the hill above the lake corner.

You can say that again. We thought we had that circuit taped using SP44's until some joker rocked up with slicks and brained everyone. Rich joker he must have been.

The dirt circuit was a fun place, wasn't it!

The last meeting I did there was in about 1988 and the day started off wet and the top five cars were all minis. After lunch the sun came out and the Toranas and Datto 1600s brained us!

Tyre choice was tough. The first corner was a good surface with a bit of tyre squeal and the hairpin and esses were always chopped up.

Here is me in 1988. Notice the direction the front tyres are pointing! (No, I did not spin, but I did set second fastest time up till the lunch break)

At least the exhaust decided to fall off after I crossed the finish line!

I was still enjoying myself after the exhaust fell off!

I just grabbed the pliers and found a nearby fence and "bought" some new exhaust mounts!
