Can count me in as a regular attendee! :D As mentioned before...public liability insurance is near impossible.....start talking $1m+ . Had to look into this type of insurance for one of my "other" interests, and it wasn't to be :x

Sorry to burst your bubble there - but a private individual charging entry in exchange for use of the facilities is going to have a real hard time convincing the powers that be that they are a "non-profit" [non-profit is legal-mumbo-jumbo for "A charity", not just someone prepared to not make any money out of a venture]

I suspect that you will be up for whatever standard public liability rates are going for these days at a motor sport venue.

But the idea has merit, and if you have the will, then why not go for it and even cater for a wider clientel base. Rally [all classes], karting, off-road 4x4, trailbikes. With that much land you should be able to cut several tracks or trails. and who knows if things go well you may even make a quid and have enough to lay down a bitumen track one day.

Im thinking all people who attend will have to sign a declaration, which prevents them from taking civil action (ie enter at your own risk). Whether that would cover me legally i dont know ... ill speak to my lawyer friends ....

Originally just wanted it to be a cool spot to just muck around on a home made race track. If it gets to the point where its gunna cost me s##tloads of $$$ then unfortunately itll just be me and my mates using it :) At least i know they wont sue me if they have a stack.

In relation to the charity thing ... why dont i just register as a charity, with all profits going to diabetes australia .... dunno im just trying to find a loop hole ... hahahaha

the way i understood that it works is that those bits of paper are not worth anything it comes down to a question of negligence if do something or don't do something that a reasonable person who is qualified would do and that results in something happening or not happening to someone who is killed or injured then you are NEGLIGENT and you can be sued whther you made someone sign some paper or not and this is why you pay for insurance so that someone else gets sued instead of you but they alway just try and find someone other than themselves to pay for the injured or dead so they charge a heap of money

no i am NOT a lawyer

yeah anyway, i like the idea, in fact a close relative who is also a specialist of your persuasion as it happens, was talking about doing something similar but going the whole hog and making a bitumen track and selling timeshare access to it :!:

PM me an i'll put you in contact with him

How about you keep the land private, and you personally invite, and screen, and only allow access to your non-letigiously-inclined mates? :)

What's the laws regarding people being injured if they're trespassing? aka, he puts up a sign saying "no tresspassing" and if people enter, and race around, would they be able to sue?
