Apart from my 1071, I know of three cars, and a handful of blocks also 10F stamped. I find it very hard to believe that without looking for them, I know of nearly half the cars that ever existed here.

My info was that 399 were brought to Australia, plus one additional making a total 400.

I was here way back then and driving a Mini too (850), Cooper 997 then 998 were top of the line and I never saw a 1071 for general sale, or on the road. The few that did come in (before we started making the 1275S in 1965) were for race and rally purposes only.

400? Where'd they all go then...

I think the number of 400 is probably incorrect. We know 13 1071's were imported officially into Aust by BMC in 63/64. Then there were private imports over the years, which I doubt would have equalled 387. From memory 1071 Morris exports in 1963 were only 317 world wide. The majority went to European countries.

Worldwide Exported 1071's in 63 & 64 were:
Austin 866
Morris 739

Worldwide exported 970's in 64 & 65 were:
Austin 88
Morris 85

Plus private export.

"I think the number of 400 is probably incorrect. .."

(Some?) 1071s share (type) numbers (engine/chassis) with ordinary (sorry:) Coopers. So if someone is counting numbers.....

Cheers, Ian

I know of 3 1071 motors owned by various Mini club NSW members.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Plenty of blocks and cranks are imported to build motors, it is not an indication of how many cars were or have been imported. After all, it is a crank and block, nearly everything else is 1275 cooper or small bore.

I dunno, by UK standards that's pretty good for an old one! Has a few good panels...
I recall the 1275S that Mick rescued from Tassie wasn't much better (or worse).
