match the ports of the cast part to the head/gasket. that will help quite a lot.
and with a new downpipe don't forget to use new stuts and nuts. makes life much easier

I changed the inlet manifold the other day and i noticed that the bolts were facing towards the gearbox (extractors to down pipes)
Is it designed to be unbolted from under the car so you don't need to take the intake manifold off and such?

The standard downtubes can be removed from under the car - not as easy as it sounds becaause the flange is bigger than the gap past the pot joints, but with some clever movements you can get past.

yes it can be removed from under the car
i use a very long extention and 13mm nut in 3/8" drive, 1/2" drive is to big.
you can reach 2 nuts quite easily, the 3rd one is a bit difficult.
the nuts and stuts are metric, M8x1,25
