Hi all 2 questions

1) I know boot lock shafts usually have a code on them stating what FS keycode will fit it. But I have some that appear not to have a code. Has it been peoples experience that ALL boot handle shafts have a code on them, and its just a matter of needing to clean them a bit more to find them


2) I assume the clubman door lock barrels have a code on them as well, but where as I cant find it, as i have searched and cant find it.

If you are wanting to key alike and you have a few locks around it is quite simple to pull out the wafers and reorder them to suit your key. I think there may be only 4 different wafers. I have done this. One key to rule them all!

Another thing that happens with old die-cast ignition barrels is the wafers wear grooves in them to the point where you can remove the key while the car is running. This can make it seem like a lot of keys fit.

You can start most early Minis using a Key from a Corned Beef tin! Works every time.

Not all boot handle shafts have the number stamped on them
You often have to remove the key barrell and the number will be stamped on the barrell
2)
The Key Number is on the barrell Not stamped on the outside It is not hard to remove the barrell on the clubman door lock

Hay Brenton you will find the code on the barrel for the door locks

Just pull the retaining spring off the end of the lock…… then pull the pin out…..or let it drop out……..best to do this over gravel so you will never find it again…

Then pull the inner barrel out……you might have to clean the crud off to see the numbers.......but a good time to really clean the lock.
should be three numbers........well all four inner barrels i have in front of me only have three numbers stamped on them.
The locksmith I use has the standard English codes on his data base so have never had problems getting keys cut.

I think the rear boot lock is the same…….number on the inner barrel….can’t remember seeing it the last time I had one apart……….as the key I had was close and just needed to be filed for one of the wafers to get it working.

I’ll dig out some rear boot locks tomorrow and have a look…….if I can remember where I put them in the shed......
