Can a larger spin on oil filter be fitted to clubman . If so what would the filter be of ? Or part number . Can anyone help .

There are longer ones that will fit, VW Jetta? I think. Not sure what year...

Why fit a bigger one, they don't filter any finer. If you want to catch the fines that go through the paper, whack a 25mm dia rare earth magnet on the outside near the bottom. The mag field penetrates the filter can and holds most of the tiny swarf to the inside.

When you change the filter, just bung the magnet onto the new one.

Most filter companies have a section on their website to search by size, Remember the rubber seal doesnt have to be spot on. But do check that it has an anti drain back valve and possibly a by pass depending on how you feel about those.

A z9 pre 05 falcon filter might fit as the thread is 3/4" same as the mini?
It would be the cheapest and easiest to obtain.
Obviously check that it wont foul the block etc I dont have a spin on housing to measure unfortunately so Im just guessing.

The benefits of a larger filter are obvious, more flow, bigger filter area and increased oil system capacity without a bigger sump. Many "race cars" run dual oil filters for these reasons.


Most premium filters come with a magnet but the majority of dirt in oil comes from the combustion cycles so a magnet is useless against that.

From memory it is a Z30 Holden red motor filter and not a Ford Z9 that fits the thread. I don't think it will clear the block though.
If you make it clear the block it would probably hit the subframe!

The Z63 fits, same diameter but deeper/longer. May have clearance problem if you have a reverse light switch in the gearbox.

An anti-drain back valve is useless on a Mini - the filter is upside down anyway, so the oil can't drain back into the engine.

Unless you like parking it on its lid, that is

Cars that have the filter screw sideways directly into the block (my Hilux 3L diesel is one example) need the drain-back valve to keep the filter full. Mini's don't

The ryco site lists the z82 as having an anti drain back valve so I assumed it was needed?

Z82 and 418 fit many other cars too, eg 350 Chev, V6 Commodore, Toyota Corolla 1.8L, etc.

I've been using a Z131A or V017 for the last few years, it's a couple of inches longer
than the standard one but same diameter, goes down between top lip of subframe.
Not sure if the extra length provides much extra filtration.

The WIX ones from Karcraft also fit my Hilux 2.7 Workmate - so happy days!

A while back as experiment, I fitted a Mini Z418 oil filter onto my son's Gti, and so fitted the Swift's Z125 onto my Mini. Both sealed fine.

Apart from a few mm difference in height, they are interchangeable.
I ordered a box of Z418s off ebay to use on our minis, the Swift, and the race car (also G13b powered). I like commonality & part interchangeability.
