Hi All

I know this topic has been well discussed, but I just need some confirmation before take the next step.

I am looking to buy a Clubman body that has the front and inner panels removed as it was planned to be a round nose conversion, as a result does not have the ID plate or radiator surround.

However, I have the previous registration details.

Based on what I have read, Vicroads will allow registration without the ID plate as I have previous registration details - is that correct?

Thanks
Chris

This comes up all the time and it surprises me the depth people have to go to get there body/ engine numbers etc spot on for rego. Mayb for people with coopers that want it spot on I can understand but most cars don't have the original motors any more.

Im pretty sure I registered my 850 as a 68 deluxe the body number I gave them wasn't 100% correct because I found out when I pulled of my I'd plate there was a faint number that I didn't see ... Goes to show that they don't have all these records of these cars.

I'd ring them up register it as a 71 or whateva clubby give them a body number on the firewall & A engine number & you should be right.

You will have to prove it is not stolen and they will issue a new VIN for the rego.

Your original rego papers and a receipt should be enough to enable identification and proof that it is not stolen, but the missing ID plate and VIN stamped into the slam panel means they must issue a new VIN.

Seeing as it is not going to be a nut an bolt original (well it is missing the front end), and you are not going to try and pass it off as a GT (are you?), it hardly matters what the VIN on the rego papers are.

You might be able to convince them to allow you to restamp the original VIN, but if not, getting it registered and using it is far more important in my book.

cheers
michael

Minis don't have a VIN.
But in NSW I registered my mini last year and it had the wrong number on the plate :?
Answer was to remove the plate and use the rego papers and the number on the radiator shroud.
Yours sounds a little different as you have no shroud with number so you may end up with either using the number on the firewall or as has been suggested a new number stamped
A phone call to Vic roads may be helpful

We know that, but most of the bureaucrats that you have to deal with only understand what the script in front of them on the computer calls it.

cheers

Cris as mentioned just use the previous registration details , as it proves your mini was once registered , and who the previous owner was.
