Hi all,
I have managed to do a bit of work on the car and decided to start restoring the heater I picked up of ebay yonks ago for a pretty good price.

It is not the same as other Australian Cooper S heaters I have seen though?
- Heater ports only exit out right side.
- Wiring and switch different.
- (2x) heater fans on the one motor.

Anybody know exactly what this is? I am about to drill holes in left side of it so it fits up as Australian Cooper S heaters I have seen but thought I might check before making serious modifications to it!

Also if someone is obliging enough, can you show or explain to me how the back of the heater is to mount. Some kind of bracket from the parcel shelf or fire wall to the studs at the rear of the heater?

Looks like a Rover mini heater to me, but I maybe wrong....

Yep, what you have is a late Rover heater with part of the front missing.

You may already have worked this out but on a car fitted with this style of heater would usually have a set of hook style brackets fitted to the floor/firewall, hard to see on mine as the body colour is dark. It's a pretty close fit over the carpet, I would have to remove the heater to get the carpet out I reckon.



The heater hooks into the brackets and then swings up to screw under the switch panel. On the left it doubles as the earth (or it does on my car at least)

sorry bit of a hijack, but looking at flutes thread.... am I missing a plastic tube fitting on the right side/inlet? Just wondering of that would affect the efficiency of my heater. Also my heater hoses exit on left?

68 Rusty, with the double fans I'm sure you will get a better volume for the heater/demister.

That is a great help to me. I'm looking for the thumbs up emotion icon but we don't have one, so a (very happy will suffice)!

I did a test when I first got it and it moves some serious air volume, I wonder if it is noisier than an Australian Cooper S one though? It should warm the car up pretty quick

No problem, they're a good little heater, I don't think mines ever been touched and still works well, mines noisy but i reckon thats mostly the motor/vibration.

Would be worth considering a fresh air vent through firewall (there should be a cover plate) and engine bay to the grille, That way you dont have to always have the fan going. The hose is a bit of a squeeze if there is a booster.

Aussie cars mostly never had that fitted, just recirculated cabin air.

Actually now I'm wondering. What would be involved in fitting a double fan motor to an older single fan heater?? How is the motor mounted?

Having the fresh ir come in from outside the car is a bit of a drag on aussie cars.. you keep the heater tap on because its a good idea to do so, but the pressure bubble under the bonnet and in front of the car pushes air through the heater. In summer it cooks your feet on the hottest days

Im stuck with it in the 997 at the moment till i find or engineer an airflap which goes in front of the underbonnet fan. Its the pits!
