So you are recommending sealant between rubber and body....I think people are thinking sealant between glass and rubber maybe.....

I suggest sealant between the rubber and body, and the rubber and glass.

The body is the main problem, without a doubt. Not much can go wrong on the glass side, except for a little bit of delamination, which isnt overly serious.

Do you gun the sealant in afterwards or put it in first  (I can imagine the mess if I did it that way)..

I have always used sealant and never had a problem, put sealant between body and rubber and then glass and rubber and then put locking strip in. Clean away excess sealant and should never leak.

Cheers
Craig :D

On the subject of locking strips, I've found the aftermarket rubber ones don't make the rubber seal properly by flexing it tight. Easy to get it in though!
Bah- gotta replace mine with a real one soon.

i got a new screen put in mine the other day
the guy said it didnt need any sealer cause they were
new rubbers. But if it does leak we will just seal the rubber to the glass
He was very confident it wont leak.

*Shakes my head in frustration* I give up.

Doc, there are different sizes of locking strip. I seem to recall that the plastic chrome type strip is flatter and a touch wider than the normal rubber locking strip. Also stiffer as well. If ya get a chance to stop off at a decent size shop, ask if ya can have a look at them, they're normally kept on roll's.

I bought aftermarket rubber off the roll, and the rubber locking strip off the roll- same time. But it's all too friggin' loose.
I'm going to pull it all out and bin it if I can't stop the leaks... I'll pay the extra $$ for a proper Mini one.

Hate to tell you this, but there appears to be different size windscreens floating around as well :!: :!: ...thinner than original...and worse maybe smaller than original....not to mention clear or with a band of tinting that may not suit tall drivers

My windscreen is still original, 1970 POS toughened one.
If I was with Shannons I'd probably think about a new one, this one is pretty grit blasted after 35 years!

Hey doc, I've got the one out of my lil girl sitting in the shed. I replaced it as soon as I bought the car since I cant stand eating glass shards.

And 9YaTaH, there are quite possibly diffeerent size windscreens floating around depending on the suppliers. Thickness I would be extremely suprised if it had been changed, they should all be 1/4in or 6.4 mm thick, otherwise somebody's pulling a dodgy.
My recommendation for windscreen supplier's comes down to Pilkington or Australian Autoglass. Pilkington are OEM suppliers to damn near everyone, and I've only ever once seen a windscreen that was faulty by them. Australian Autoglass is up there with them, i've seen very few of their windscreen's with flaws. I have jumped in several friends brand new cars, and been able to show them flaws in a windscreen straight out of the factory.

Overall size is a different matter, but then again, who's to say that Leyland got it right with the car body every time, either.
