Ouch - a bit harsh there panthersteve.

I agree the post didn't answer lillee's question/poser but it was looking at the time based theory. I would think it isn't quite the same as pulling the thread off topic - although as in most threads the topic re oil pressure drop has evolved. I would think someone who gives good quality information so freely and readily ( in this instance the Doc, but applies to many others) can be given some leniency in such matters, but then again i am a total noob who needs everybit of help . Cheers Darryl

Everyone settle down and have a beer (which is what Doc and I do on many occasions). It's all good, healthy discussion here, more than likely Doc is right anyway and it's an old wives tale designed to sell more oil..........

If new oil was alkaline to any extent, it would not prevent corrosion forming on machined steel parts. Which, it does.
Yes the acids (from fuel combustion) in old oil do attack bearing surfaces, but this doesn't happen with clean oil.
My point above was, if the fresh oil is still (relatively) clean after 6 months in an engine that does hardly any miles, why change it. :)

Me again.
Thanks for the input so far, on oil pressure, as well as change intervals.
Metal rod inserted (as per Drmini), and new GTX 20w50 oil installed.
Only got a cold idle oil pressure so far, but a very healthy 75psi.
So it would seem I'm back in the game!

I guess it was more about the spring thing than just giving it new oil, but it felt good to change it anyway!

Ausmini does it again!

Cheers
Matt

You will find GTX drops its hot pressure more on the freeway than most others. I used to use it years ago. it is fine around town.
Now I find Valvoline XLD Classic much better. It holds 75psi from 2500rpm up with no cooler fitted, freeway running or not.
