yea 2 pack requires a 1.4mm nozzle...prolly because it's very thin in texture. Acrylic uses 2.0mm or 2.5mm

Spraying is an art. Technique determines results.

I am looking forward to trying out 2 pack.

Beware the health hazards. This stuff not only presents issues needing breathing protection but is absorbed straight through the skin and eyes. No one in Europe uses it now due to these issues so I am told.

the paint thats starting to gain popularity in Europe that you mention is WATER based basecoats not solvent based like currently in use in 2pack systems.

with a booth, the correct painting suit and gloves and a good quality mask with charcoal filter 2 pack isnt dangerous to use, but if neglect these and you'll only shorten yours, ya dogs, ya family's life by painting 2pack in the shed at home.

not to mention you'll probably go insane at all the dust and insects that will appear in your finish that you'd normally rub out if you were painting in acrylic.

if you've got access to a booth for hire this would be an ideal set-up.

I read that regarding the nozzle size but what is best for acrylic 2 mm or 2.5 mm? I didnt realise that it was absorbed through your skin are all 2 packs like this? I was advised that if I use a good mask and have good ventilation all would be ok.

for acrylic, a 2mm tip is usually the go but on finer metallic/pearl basecoats you can use a finer tip if you prefer but for clears and solid colours a 2mm is ideal, 2.5 would be ideal for putty/primer so you can flog a lot of it on

you'll notice when you dont spray 2pack with a suit the paint sticks to your skin like crazy, an air-fed mask and suit is the Pro set-up but a reasonable quality suit and mask with a charcoal filter will provide adequate protection and both of these will come in at under $300.

Um... we've already got the Monza Red paint, it's just boring old acrylic, not 2 pack.
But, the hi-build primer is 2 pack epoxy. Easy stuff to spray, even with my old gun.

ooooohhhhh......I thought you had 2 pak everything!!!

I feel better now, because after reading all the friendly advice on 2 pak, I wasn't too keen on spraying it.

I kinda want to live long enough to see my sons play cricket for Australia

Aaron, this spray gun comes with everything u need. Gun, paint pot, spanner, cleaning tool.

It's a better gun than my old one. Speking of which......they sent me a replacement paint pot for that one, for nix. I dropped it and cracked the lid. Great service!!

So is a 600ml pot sufficient or do you need the 1 litre pot?

I tell you what.......

600ml is a pain to refill so frequently...but a 1L pot would not only get in the way when spraying in door jams, boot, engine bay etc, but waving 1 of paint around will give your arm a good workout!

Stick with a 600ml pot

Well i bought the gun with a 600ml pot and a 1.4mm tip. Now you don't have to bring your own gun anton. I just have to get a paper suit and a charcol mask from somewhere. Everyone has been very against 2pack spraying at home, but i have been told by the guys that did my car that doing the engine bay and the interior(doing that eventually) will be fine to do at home. A whole maybe not. Anyway, i hope your not scared off doing my engine bay anton. One other question shuld i have bought a 2mm tip for doing the primer, or can i just use the 1.4mm tip for that as well.

Cheers

i'll do your bay, thats fine.

IMHO, I would have 2 tips for your gun. 1.4 mm and 2.0 mm

Then you have 2 guns in one.

But you will get away with the 1.4 mm only for your requirements.

Paper disposable suit I could probably help with. I know I can get one in Anton's size, yours might be a stretch (no pun intended).

I can get a couple, but not a continuous supply. We bought a box for work and ended up not using them. We very occasionally use them, so until the box is depleted or we decide we will use them more often, I can grab a couple. I'll probably be at the Docs on Sat (TBC) so I'll bring some then.

Hey guys,

Regarding the 2 pack paints, and alternatives. I've been doing some research into the hazards, and alternatives that are available.

I've done a recent audit on all the paints and primers we use at work. We commonly use 2 pack epoxy primer, and 2 pack top coats.
None of it's good stuff, but the 2 pack polyurethane top coats containing the HDI (hexamethylene di-isocyanate) in the hardener is seriously bad stuff. We still use the 2 pack paints, since the water based and "high solids" type paints still have inherent problems.

I found this link from WHS Queensland, and reckon it will be well worth your while to check out. http://www.whs.qld.gov.au/casestudy/case005v3.pdf

It's an Adobe file. If you dont have Adobe Reader or Acrobat, ya can find it damn near everywhere on the web, for free

Note the fact that companies are REQUIRED BY LAW to keep records of spray painters, and their medical records for 30 Years.
