Hey guys

As it sounds having problems with the fuel gauge, wasn't working, changed the sender unit, now it works, only when the car is off (ignition on, engine not running) as soon as I start the car the gauge goes to empty (half/quarter at best) do the fuel gauges have a voltage regulator or something along those lines that would cause this?

For those that don't know, my car is a 65 (so roundy)

Yes, it's a small metal case attached to the back of the speedo.

They can be replaced but they are really dinosaur technology.

User "Wombat" on here makes an electronic replacement that works really well.

I'm sure one or more of the mini parts suppliers sells a more modern replacement (same externally, more modern gizzards), but I can't for the life of me remember who.

I sell the regs with solid state internals. Look for an earth issue.

In my case it was a vibe issue, the faster I went the lower it read! Then when you stopped at the lights it came back up. Weird..
A Wombat made electronic one sorted the problem.

The old V `stabilizer' works similar to a flasher can (but @ higher frequency), it makes and breaks a contact to keep the V stable. So yeah, old age and enough vibes can kill it.
