Hi guys, just wondering if you guys have any idea what could be causing my car to run like poo sometimes but others runs like a dream? I don't drive it at the moment as it's not registered yet but i start it regularly and move it around to make sure everything stays free but I'm a bit worried as to why it does this?

Regards

Plugs aren't fouling up are they ? , Why i say this is if you have been starting it often and
letting it idle too much , it could foul up the plugs .

A couple of things you can try is , when it starts playing up , put a new set of plugs in and see if this improves it or , fire it up , get it warm , then run the revs up to about 1500 - 2000 rpm for a couple of minutes .

Sometimes a good run is enough to sort them out , but you don't have this option .

Yeah that was the next thing I was going to look at but it appears to be getting fuel up there fine. It's just not burning it off and comes out the back

Are you running a su? You're discribing it as running rich? And unburnt fuel exiting though the exhaust?

If its not an electrical gremlin, could it be metering in the carb?

Have you checked the float recently? Or the valve in the top of the fuel bowl?

I am running am su carby, I checked the fluid etc and it seems to be fine. although has been sitting for a while?

I will have to check the points on the weekend, as i don't have the time working 13 hour shifts to pull it out. I'm thinking about converting it to electronic dizzy any way, to make it a bit easier to start on the cold mornings.

I do have a set of twin su's that are ready to go on for it too but I need to wait till i replace the extractors and exhaust to change that over.

I'll check the points and see how i go from there, thanks for the replies guys much appreciated :)
