Ok so instead of a quiet clutch engagement rubbing noise in the background I now have a really loud rubbing sound.

It didn't feel that good when it was on and was really noisy.

So is this common, an adjustment thing or time for a new clutch?

I'll post a video I made for the sound shortly.

Out of interest I reckon it got progressively worse on the drive from the city.

Oh and hi to the guys in the roundy at the intersection of Stafford Road and Appelby Road at STafford at about 6.30 tonight.

Most likely your clutch throw-out bearing. It's not expensive or hard to replace, but it will take a bit of time. You'll need to jack up the engine, undo the right engine mount and take off the wok to replace it.

I was going to change the engine mounts so probably a good time to do both.
