Hi all,

Quick question about a mk2 cooper S speedo, did they come with an orange speedo and fuel quantity needle? I thought they were always white but one has appeared on eBay. I assume it's easy to change for a gauge specialist? Also does anyone have a rough cost of an overhaul of a speedo gauge?

They were white. Someone has taken upon themselves to have it touched up as orange.

The bezel has obviously been removed at some stage.
Needles are an easy swap and I have seen bezels available new.
Any gauge shop could service and return to originial as new condition.
"dont out bid me now" Could be famous last words though.

Cheers Rob.

Edited for spelling.....doh

Yes it is. The Mk1 Speedos were graduated to 130. Parnell makes a mistake in his book about them from memory, but that is how they are.

It might just be a cooper face on a k speedo, if it is it won't be calibrated properly?

Any problems the speedo may have are Not Huge, and can be overcome by a good speedo repair Man

Parnell does mention Oz cars in his book but can't remember if he goes into speedos.... He mainly deals in UK cars ..and Mk Is were (are?? :) calibrated to 120...

The Ebay item is not a UK speedo though.

Cheers, Ian

The font this on the mk1 sticker is so obviously wrong. The mk2 s speedo and the mini k speedo were the only ones made by smiths in Australia. Colour is the most prominent difference.

Yes that is true. However he is 180 degrees about in his description of the UK speedos compared to Oz cars. We may not have stepped in the same footsteps as the UK cars, but much of the equipment improvements came across in the same technical steps. I haven't the book here, but it is mentioned earlier in the book.
