I fitted a new CV boot the other day and it has popped off.

I was wondering if I tried to do the retainer up too tight or if some of the boots are just not the right shape at the lip.

Is there a trick to getting these things to stay on?

Havent done mine yet , but i have noticed 2 different kits so far , 1 with the stainless steel clip and 1 with the cable tie's , try the cable tie route if you havent............ unless the brainstrust here has a special way.

Phil, I always wipe the grease off the inner edge of the boot and CV, so that when you slip it on it's not slipping around in grease.

The metal clamps are way better than cable ties. But they need to be tight. If you don't have the special tool (that Lillee has) use 2 pr of pliers.

OK I've refitted using a metal strip, I think I may have not had it in quite the right spot first time round.

The old boot I removed seemed to have a much more definite 'v' to engage the groove in the CV.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I realise now having just done the other side that the CV's fitted to the first side (which I had trouble with) had a different design.

The "groove" for the cover seal was more a "V", was closer to the edge of the CV and the original boot seemed to be designed for it.

The one I just did the groove is rounded and much deeper into the hub and the new boot was a perfect fit.
