G'day all long time no post...

I am dispensing with the fragile s type flares for the 1977 S and using these:

http://www.minisport.com.au/prod497.htm

How is the best way to fit these? I have heard of sikaflex underneath them and using rubber tubing around the edges. I am retaining the S metal extensions and have relieved the inner plastic bits to fit over. I tried a mock fit and all works well but concerned with punching holes in the bodywork and whether the bolts will wiggle out! Want to use chromed hex bolts but what are your suggestions?

Your input, as always, is welcomed!

I use these flares, screwed straight on with SS self tappers from www.biasboating.com.au.
I just greased the threads. I have never had any come out in 20 years (in 2 sets of flares).
You can use that rubber filler fin stuff if you want, but I didn't bother.
You can also get BLING chrome/SS covers like Gafmo has, for these flares, it hides the screws. I dunno if he bought local or brought them in.
[edit] here ya go- http://www.minisport.com.au/prod496.htm

Only £42.10 at Minispares UK but I bet the freight would be killer (big box).

Nah going the au natural look and no bling. Sourced the in between rubber from Clark rubber(for the gap between the front and back flares on both sides) and sealing with sikaflex where the bottom bit contacts in with the s metal extension. I will source the screws you talk of in the afternoon tomorrow. I will be painting them but don't know whether to paint them in a matt black or match to the white body. I think the black would look ok and break up the lines a bit. Will clear coat them as well so there will be a bit of a contrast.

I have also given away the idea of a belt drive so the trigger is off and a rollmaster duplex with keyed sprockets used instead. Just have to put up with the rattles. Might revisit the belt drive at a later stage...supercharger is shelved until I run this beast in on the dellorto and replace the crank damper supplied with the blower kit due to some numpty dropping it about a foot and, in turn, breaking a tiny piece off the outer face. I don't think it will cause an issue but I think I will replace it to be safe. Will put up a pic for your opinion!

Thanks kev! Your advice is always welcomed. :D

Sorry kev...what gauge screw did you use and was there a washer between the screw and the flare? Looking at the boating site as we speak...

They are pan head phillips, 1904 or 1905 I think. Take a flare or a screw with you to check.
No washers.
Don't use the black screws that come with the flares, the buggers rust bad!

Small stainless allen bolts... No need for nuts, they haven't fallen out in 20 years.

They've been there 20 years because I can't work out what to do with the leftover holes - without spending my Daughters inheritance.

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian! Bought both so will look at what each look like on the car. The self tappers are a good fit and the Allen key ones look ok but the length is an issue.
