Nothing spectacular, thought it could have been!

Out driving this arvo at some point the brake fluid reservior cap has come off, and and melted to the exhaust pipe.
Brake fluid was all over the surrounding fire wall, stripping it of all its paint.

This was the first time I had driven the car since, surprise surprise, getting new brake components installed. All cylinders, pads and cables.

I never noticed a change in braking, so hopefully the loss was only minimal.
I'll find out haw much exactly later.
Check those caps people!

My engine bay is nothing worthy of awards.
The paint I've already got off wasn't that easy. The fluid has blistered it, and the paint was there, but more rubbery and not sticking to the metal. A screwdriver and vacuum has got rid of most of it, I'll prime it asap, and get it looking pretty again later on.

I did the same thing one day. Did the pre-ACTMCC Cotter brekky a few years back and left the cap on the rocker cove. Driving to the brekky just passing HMAS Harman in Canberra and heard a "clunk" and that was it. Pulled over and before I had even popped the bonnet I knew i had forgot to replace the brake reservoir cap. A fruitless immediate search of the area failed to locate it. Glad wrap fixed the problem of water getting in(it was pouring!!!) and drove all the way to Cotter and back.

Anger got the better of me and I went back to Canberra avenue to again look for the offending cap. Well as sure as my arse points south - I found it. It had bounced along the road for about 20-30 metres, and was lodged in the fork of a tree. I was gobsmacked and now regularly check i have rossed the t's and dotted the i's before moving off. The good thing in finding it was to replace it was going to cost me about $39 bucks at the loca l"so called" mini workshop.

Pissed and amazed!!
