I have this theory that you can drive your mini on city link with no etag or day pass and not have to pay or get fined for it.. similar to motorbikes.

I have driven mine twice on it in the last 3 months and forgot to buy a day pass, I was annoyed the first time, and then kicked myself the 2nd, but the fines haven't turned up.. I have since (about a month ago) driven a large 4 door sedan that was a swap out for my company car for a day on it and of course forgot to buy a day pass  (can anyone see a theme developing here?:( ) Which I promptly recieved a fine for within 3 weeks. Both trips in the mini were well before this incident..

I really don't think my fines for the mini are coming.

Prehaps they are small enough to be ignored like motorbikes?

Has anyone else got a toll fine in a mini?

what does everyone else think?

Does anyone want to test out my theory?

What's the fine worth? I might test it.

I think the first one you get per rego is $50 and $80 after that! But don't quote me.. my 1 fine for this year is at home so i'll check tonight.

One of the guys I work with has a bike. The reason they get freebie passes is because the cameras photograph your front numberplate, which motorbikes don't have.
Now, If the numberplate on a mini is under the bumper, the cameras won't be able to see it, that's why you aren't getting billed- they don't know where to send it.

For sale - front number plate sun visors - suit any vehicle - protect your numberplate paint from the harmful effects of utraviolet radiation so that they can be read clearly by anyone at ground level.

You get a warning the first time you go on the citylink without a tag then the second time you get caught, you get fined like $100.

Maybe they're not very vigilant at the moment?

That fine hurts when it does arrive though...
Helps if your rego is in another state too, not just for toll road fines either

Our government is tight, we have to pay for everything.
Tell yas what, if the frankston to micham is a tollway, people won't use it.
Who in frankston has the money to use it daily?

I can confirm Citylink seems unable to read my front plate on the van either. Several times I have forgotten to take the e-Tag out of my fourby and put it in the van before I went on Citylink. No charges or fines - ever!

Jan aka Mutant_Mini's husband has been pulled over on Citylink and fined for having an obscured front plate - yet it was in the factory location for his mid-90's SPi Mini and had been ADR approved on import!

I'd like to see them try that on me - I'd fight it!

Yeah you really have to bolt the number plate on up under the front bumper on the SPi's else it practically drags on the ground :?

I drive through the tunnel once a month and don't bother with the day pass because they have never issued a fine (20 times approx). I think we should keep this to ourselves.
