the box that houses the selector looks fine to me.

John, if you mean the round pins that are in the box , they look round to me...

Also, look like i'll be looking for another head.

Your gear lever looks very good. The wear on the bottom is because the lever has not always been lifted high enough when selecting reverse gear. The pins I am talking about are numbered 17 & 18 in the drawing posted before But I think they are going to fine considering how the gear lever looks, I would now Check the connecting sleave and the roll pins

Yes ill have another head here $20. It will need a recon though. But the bare head casting is good.
On another note for you aswell my friend has a saas wheel and boss kit for sale I found out last nite

i finally got around to having a closer inspection of my rod change. There selector box looks fine to me, doesnt look like its been bottoming out or something like that. There is some play where the rod goes into the connecting sleeve and into the gearbox... however i read in the haynes manual this is normal.

the roll pins at the selector box appear to be in there tight. However, at the gearbox end, one of the roll pins is quite loose - i can move it back and forward a bit by hand .

not sure what to look for in terms of wear on the connecting sleeve. I dont have punch at the moment so i couldnt remove it but if need be it can be done.

I did check my other mini which is a rod change... it would appear to be the same , the roll pins at the gearbox are not in so tight, there is some play... and i havent had selector issues with this car

sorry to bump this again... but can anyone confirm that it sounds like my selector problems are inside the gearbox itself?
