Wow good luck with the new adventure! I'm sure in no time at all you'll be busy and running around like a mad man again!

Your following a lot of people's dream of opening up their own garage and it seems you have plenty of support. Enjoy the journey

Good luck with your venture .

Wow, awesome news Tricky (well the second half anyway). Good luck with the new venture, you will certainly have the perfect promo vehicle very soon.

Tricky, people in my industry are being made redundant all over the place. With the constant threat hanging over us we have done the research. As far as I can determine, being made redundant at just under ten years is the optimum time. Legally you should get your Long Service Leave entitlements pro-rata. At nearly 10 years, you should get virtually the whole lot. On top of that there is the gov legislated minimum redundancy payout. This has a scale of weeks pay for years of service and goes up until 10 years then drops before going up again. In theory it is because at 10 years you get LSL pay out which compensates.

So you have LSL rules designed to stop employers firing people at 9.99 years to save LSL and the Redundancy laws which appear to have been written at a totally different time and ignore the LSL rules.

People I know that have been cut say they got the above. The annual leave and LSL were taxed normally but the redundancy payout was taxed at a lower rate (some portion is tax free depending on years of service).

So in my web-educated optinion (about as valid as a Wiki 'fact'....) you should get paid LSL, redundancy and any outstanding annual leave entitlements.

You should fight for what you are entitled to, not a cent less.

Best of luck with the new venture. I think you are living everyone's dream of getting paid to do their hobby.

M

Wow Tricky, the new business sounds awesome. I'll definately have to come and check out the shed when it's all finished.

Keep in mind when you start getting busy i would be happy to lend a hand if required.

Once the shed is finished, the epoxy floor can go down,

Epoxy flooring - Lovely stuff and fantastically hard wearing :D I did my garage slab (50m2) last weekend with some industrial epoxy and after a cool 10degC night and the cold and mostly shaded slab, it was like trying to paint with tar! The epoxy viscosity seems to change dramatically below ~20degC.

Hi Guys,

THank you all so much for the kind words and the encouragement - sincerely makes this little 'adventure' a but less daunting when you have the support of freinds and the broader Mini community - Ausmini members will be looked after for sure!!

There will be a shed warming soon, for those that can attend - date TBA....

Mokesta - technically they are operating within the T&C's of my contract - but to get the heave-ho a week or so out from your LSL anniversary date was a bit rough (but very startegic on their part!!). I rang Fair Work Australia but seeing as there was no breach of contract, they couldnt help. Morally however, FWA said that any decent employer should have paid out the LSL component. I am over it now, and just want to move on!!

Cam - Would love to have that helping hand, thanks - and perhaps we can get your mini finished as well!!

Alan - This stuff is the industrial food grade stuff - and its expensive too!! Luckily for me, it was the same product and company that I specified to do all of RSL Cares work, so I am getting a bit of pay back - normally, it would be $9,500 worth of coating had I paid full retail price. The process is prep the slab (by grinding then acid washing), then one base layer of epoxy, then add the paint chips (a million combinations and totally customisable) and then the top layer of epoxy. Then I have to let it cure for 4 days!! Then, its impervious to oil, water and as hard as the concrete underneath it!!! Plus, it has a slip rating of R10, which is great, plus it looks a million bucks for many years to come and easy to clean!!

Anyway, some progress with the shed. John the builder finished the shed on Saturday afternoon, I had him do some additional stuff like plumb the downpipes into the water tank. Since Saturday, I have been working like a Trojan to get all the eletrical works completed before the scissor lift gets taken away, and, today, its more or less completed whch I am very happy about.

Here are a few pics of the completed barn, with electrical works done by yours truly:

Tomorrow the epoxy floor guy comes in and this will take a few days to complete. Then its locked up for four days for curing.

Cheers,
Tricky

Before the scissor lift goes run the tubing for the compressed air system!
It is so much better to have an outlet close by than to have long hoses over the floors.

Looking great! Absoe for the racking, they rock.

I got the cheaply version of the epoxy on my floor. It is fantastic but the only drawback is that it isn't UV stable so it has faded in the doorways after 3 years.

Maybe even look at bolting a winch or something of sorts somewhere so you can pull a non running car up the drive! I have tried and tried to move just my trailer up mine and can't for the life of me move it

I love how that describes the exact opposite of your last garage under the house

Shed looks good! Would be keen to say hello and for sure see your mini!
