I was wondering if people could show me some pictures of where thees are fitted on your parcel shelf. My mini already has several pre drilled hole and want to see if one set line up for after market mounts. I know there is I believe a 50mm rule about distance and understand a qualified fitter will fit these but just curious as to what they look like on a mini

Speaker holes + child restraints anchor points =

Already weakened parcel shelf by the speaker holes is a bit of a worry...

Other than that, you need a plate underneath the anchor points, don't just bolt the anchor straight to the parcel shelf.

My 1977 mini S came with the restraints fitted from factory. Agree with above comments in if the parcel shelf has been cut in any way, you won't be able to install them until the entire shelf is repaired/replaced. The plates in the link need to be inspected once installed also.

cars didnt need to have seatbelts fitted in the rear from factory til 77 i guess it saves the hassle for you then, my mates beetle hasnt got rear seatbelts & vinyl seats, makes very slippery rides in the back when your by yourself lol

this will be 1 mod i may have to look into i guess i will need to use pods or boxes if i want speakers in/on the parcel.

I would either consult a child restraint fitting centre (yellow pages?) or 'over engineer' something. A piece of 75 x 3 right across in line with restraint mount would have to pass, you'd ripp parcel shelf clean out before it failed. I'd post picture, but I don't know how.

I could email you a picture. My rover has factory fitted child restraint you could copy???

What about a factory speaker hole that is patched and welded? I'm talking here about the oval-shaped hole on the passenger side in a Leyland - I assume this was for a small speaker of some sort? I plan to replace my hacked Morris parcel shelf with a Leyland version so that I can fit the centre mount lap/sash seat belts, and I want to fit the child restraint anchor points too. All will be engineered properly before rego of course, no silly business.

When my imported Rover was complied the engineer specified a spreader that went around the speaker. It had about 3/4 inch wide plate that surrounded the speaker hole under the parcel shelf, which widened out to about 3 inches on one corner (of the circle ) as the spreader for the restraint mount.

He explained it that the metal body of the speaker is very solid (built to mount a heavy magnet without distortion) so once the parcel shelf is sandwiched between the speaker mount ring above and the "spreader circle" below then it was actually stronger than if there was no speaker hole.

Child restraint mounting points are completely different to seatbelt mounting points. They are smaller in diameter and require a smaller spreader plate. You can get the child restraint hooks at any auto parts store, k-mart, Target etc. In Victoria you can fit them to a Mini parcel shelf yourself quite legally. There is even a Vicroads bulletin on how to do it. I fitted lap belts and child restraint anchorage hooks in my wife's Mini. My son uses a h-harness and booster seat, my daughter uses a child seat. All perfectly legitimate.
