Just like to give a big thanks & appreciation to this forum and the many members who assisted with my recent engine revamp. I won't drop names, in case I forget someone but you know who you are. Unfortunately for the many members, you can't drink appreciation.

The aim for me was to get my car ready to display with 80 other classic muscle cars, at the Townsville V8s. Like most engine repairs it seemed like the mandatory machining, rebuild kit - go. However due to the poor workmanship of the previous engine rebuilder over a decade ago, it wasn't that easy. One dodgy part had a domino effect on many other components and it was simply a case of elimination, one fault at a time.

The eight weeks that I had been given to complete the reco soon become hours. On Friday night it was like a Reality TV Show in the end 10- 9 -8 -7 -6, with the first real test drive of the car, being on Saturday morning 5am, driving to display the car at the track. Very nervous. Then having to do a parade lap that arvo, terrified that I was going to be that guy representing the mini world, broken down on the middle of the track delaying the TV worldwide coverage.

Fortunately all was good and the mini prevailed with pride.

A very humble Ford GT owner, who is fortunate enough to own 7 + Genuine GTs including original Phase 1,2,3 HOs let me park next to him and display my mini with my spare NT number plates attached.

I saw you on Sunday, looked like your car was pretty packed, you almost stalled (or so it seemed to me ha ha) on the start line ;-)

Sweet number plate as well, particularly with that lineup beside you! :-)

On display the theme was seven dealerships set up, paying tribute to some of the 70s car dealers in Townsville. They included Holden, Ford, Sport Cars, etc. They had some great signs made including the 70s price tags on cars - eg. $3500 for a R/T Charger. My photos don't show the rest of the cars due to respecting the owners privacy.
However the owner of the GTs ( Yes they are all genuine), was more than happy to have his cars filmed next to a classic mini. As a car enthusiast it was definitely great to be amongst so many legendary cars that helped shape motor history.

The number plate is real NT plate, I had it on a vehicle whilst in Darwin. You get a lot of girls asking you what the plate means. The plate was only clipped on for display purposes as the car is currently registered in Queensland. Your right about almost stalling, as the focus was getting the motor right, the clutch cylinder still had a bit of air in it, as I found out as soon as we hit the track. We squeezed a couple extra in for the parade lap, in case I needed a push.
