has anyone used the Gunson colourtune system to tune their cars?

Is it worthwhile having or would it be a dust collector?

While we're here - can anyone recommend a decent carb balancing tool?

I have a pair of the colortunes, they're a great tool. Trick is however that if you have a significantly modified engine with a large cam, large head, large carbs, whatever, the colortune will not be able to give you a reading that is valid across the tuning range.

ie. What appears to be tuned at idle, will not be tuned under load. So they work for a relatively stock engine. I love the tool anyway. I have a pair I use, either one for inner and one for outer, or because I am tuning twin carbs, and need one on both ends of the engine.

WRT the carb balancing tool, I have a colortune one here, but frankly have gone back to the length of heater hose to do it. The colortune cone type proves problematic when trying to fit over stock SU carb horns.

I've used one but it always seems to be a bit off when finished and I adjust it by ear at the end. You can borrow it and try it out if you want.

I did the same.... though I found that the nice piece of white hose that came with the gunsons carbalancer felt very nice against the ear

Yeah,

Gunson carbalancer was a pain with the SUs. Had to cut a funnel and tape it onto the assembly to get a seal....also as the tube came out as was loose, lost the ball that shows the level of suction......got one out of my windmeter which is the same system and now it all works great.......

Yeah, get a Uni-syn!

I got a set off ear protection muffs drilled a hole in each one and stuck a pipe in each going to a tee then a pipe from the tee to stick in the carby, the muffs block out the engine noise. A bit like a stethoscope for your car, it is great

I have a real car stethoscope, Gafmo bought it on line and gave it to me!
Works great, for tracing engine noises or twin carb tuning.
