Mr Swan would know that under CUSTOMS REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) 1995 NO. 244 there is no duty on parts for historic cars.
Does that mean that the $1000 limit does not apply to us Mini owners then?
I've heard this before but not had the balls to try it out.
Just because there's no duty doesn't cut out the requirement for GST to be levied on imports over the threshold limit.
Thus, technically if you have AUD1K or more in imports (
i.e. cost of goods including postage/freight) then you may* be stung for (our current) 10% GST.
* I say
may because it really depends on the vigilance of whomever is processing the goods through Bond upon arrival?
In my general experience, goods coming via Postal service tend to be less often caught by this than if a global freight forwarder/courier operator is used.
Nevertheless, on many things paying the 10% GST is a small additional price to pay so you can get that key desired component?
Cheers
