Does anyone know where I can get a quarter window latch for my 1966 mini? I can’t find one anywhere. Do any other cars aside from the clubman and mini use this latch or are there any other latches that will work? Thanks.

Provo Utah, the US. It is a bit hard to find parts here. I see you are in Melbourne. I have a good friend there.

Hi
I presume that you have an Australian built Mini from the 1/4 window catch shown in your pic. These 1/4 window and window winder are an Australian creation and used in the roundnose Mini and the later clubman.

Generally, if the latch has come off the window it is due to excessive wear and tear. A replacement latch may solve your problem but a better solution would be to source a complete 1/4 vent window in good condition with a functioning latch.

Being peculiar to the Australian Mini it will be very difficult if not impossible to source one anywhere other than OZ. Suggest you place a request in the Wanted section and hope someone is willing to send a good one to the US. Good luck!

I am not sure if you are looking for one for the other side or if it is because this one is detached but there is a brass pin in the latch shown that attaches the handle to the base post on the quarter glass in the rounded groove.

You will need to drill out the end of the old one insert a new one (after placing the latch onto the base post with a spring in the centre) to make the latch stay in place. I cant see the pin in the photo so I assume this one has worn out.

If you cant get the pin it is brass. You can purchase brass rod from hobby shops the correct diameter (3/32" I think but please check) . It would pay to ensure the groove it rides in is smooth and lubricated before you put the pin in to minimise wear. When you purchase a pine ready made it is knurled on one end.

Don't replace the brass with anything harder as you will wear out the base post on the quarter glass which would be harder to replace.

I hope this helps.

My car is an Australian mini. The latch pictured is not mine but is the same latch. Mine is missing a large portion of the pivot area. I can find the pin, spring and all of the other parts except the latch. I will post a wanted ad. You guys make a good mini.
Thanks
