is it better to grease wheel bearings when installing or just use the grease thats been packed in from factory?

should you remove the old grease ?
should you pack more on top ?
which grease is best?

i know theres plenty of Guru's who can shed some light on the matter

New tapered roller wheel bearings are not packed with grease as supplied.
I leave the old grease in, unless I'm taking it all apart.
If I'm taking it all apart I always fit new bearings + seals, and pack them with Castrol HTB grease(usually).
However, when I did the Timkens in my current Mini 10 years ago I packed them with ordinary Mobil 2000 EP2 grease, I have done probably 75,000 miles since and it's still in there. Ain't broke yet...

This should be a how to do/sticky, a lot of people do not know how to pack wheel bearings.
its messy, but if you do it right you will not have any probs!
