Pretty spoilt for choice nowadays. The polished wooden (Riley Elf) type two piece dash was the 'must have' for a while in the '60s. There weren't the ready custom made Mini drop in dash inserts that you can now buy so easily from Mini Spares, Huddlesfield, etc in just about any type of finish now. If you could afford it there were fibreglass one piece dashboards that could be imported from the UK like the Broadspeed dash or Magdadash I think it was called - they used to be advertised in CCC magazine and some were a lot better looking and finished than others. But many folk, myself included, simply made their own out of wood.
Using complete dash set ups from other makes can often work well though I've seen some horrible selections and executions over the years, including one adpated from an early Honda Civic that made the inside of the Mini look like, err... a Honda Civic! Just like 10 inch wheels and side mounted radiators, there's a certain quaint uniqueness to a simple Mini dash that stands it apart from the rest.
