Cant seem to find it in my manual.

I have just finished changing the driveshaft seals and have put the output shafts back in situ and am tightening the bolt up but am unsure at what torque it is meant to be done up to.

(I have hardi-spicer joints and have replaced all seals)

I can't find the S diff flange centre bolt in my book (which damned manual was it) but I think it is 72 ft/lb. I Loctite it with 262 as well as using the thick spring washer.

Think your right Kev, my memory says 70 ft/lb.

But then again, it could be a torque range, anywhere between 0 - 300 ft/lbs, so don't believe what you see posted on forums :D

One manual for the Drive flange nut says 70lb/ft, and then align split pin to the next hole and an earlier manual just says torque is 85lb/ft

Yes I saw this, but it is not a nut its a bolt and there is no split pin. So it is not talking about what im talking about

I will just take 70lb as correct and do them up to it

As others said the S uses a bolt not a nut, but I believe the thread is the same size. I reckon 90 ft/lb might have been a bit much... :shock:

Yes, I was aware of the difference so I should've added a note to say I was just posting it for general information. Came across it whilst looking for something else.

40 - 45 lbs/ft is correct for auto as Morris says, which uses hardy spicer unis as Cooper S. I checked my reference today and concur (instead of relying on memory . . .). Apologies for incorrect figure previously.

Hmm.. Well I have done them up to 70lb and they didn't strip, so I'm happy. Just hoping the rubber hasn't been squashed too severely to cause a leak (then I wont be happy)

Mostly put back together now too.

I will write this in my manual so I know for next time.

The rubber plug seal they sell now is crap, should be neoprene but isn't. it is too thick and if it doesn't tear up when assembling, the oil will rot it.
I made some out of polyurethane, Can't remember the thickness I used. It is fine in oil.

I got a little worried because When I did it up it tore some of it out (like the overhang from the washer) I saw minispares have some neoprene ones. I think next parts order I will buy some for a rainy day.
