Hi all,

I am seeking some ideas for blanking off the hole in my firewall (whilst still running through the necessary wires and speedo cable). When the car was still on the road I had a webber sitting on the other side which was bloody loud! Now I am going to fit an eaton supercharger and, although I like the whine, I don't want it to be so loud in the cabin that I can't hear myself think!

I have already laid dynamat throughout the cabin including along the inside firewall. I have a nice wood grain dash to fit also which will limit the engine noise, however i want to blank off the firewall access hole also. I have seen a few different attempts at this but nothin that looks nice and neat from within the engine bay.

Not sure if there are any "off the shelf" solutions for this but also happy to fabricate something if need be. Any ideas or pics you guys might have would be greatly appreciated!

I just put a firewall plate off another mini into mine works good

Sounds good to me.. I assumed that there was some sort of factory blanking plate but I have never seen one up close and can't seem to find any on the usual spares sites..

What type of mini body do you have?
I have an early Clubman (1973) which has a plate for the hole where the round nose speedo would fit
I think It bolts into the same the same holes as the speedo surround

Hey Michael, it's a 65 MKI Cooper S. It has four holes around it which are backed by threaded nuts..! Although I know the factory blanking plates are out there in the later cars, I can't seem to find any reference to them on any of the mini parts websites!

I figure I am not the only one who doesn't like all the engine noise coming through to the cabin, so assumed there would be some well thought out and trick solutions out there.! Factory plate would be fine if I could find one... I have seen the inset boxes that people make (assume to make room for longer webber manifolds) but not sure of the clearance I will need for the back of the speedo binnacle...

I used some dynamat with a cut out for the speedo and electrics and then covered it with the factory sound deadening matt Works very well.

Hi all
On the Summerford Mini http://www.somerford-mini.co.uk/support/pdf-catalogues site they have a heap of .pdf file of all of the parts for all versions of mini's.
On the Facias and Instruments page is a Dust Cover, Instruments part number 24A1582.
I'm not sure what it is made of or if it is available as a spare part.

Think it was only used in early Clubbies

I hunted one high and low and picked one up at a swap meet - it is just pressed steel with some stiffening ridges - ended up not using it and gave it away
