Hi all.
I'm new to this website, I am 15 at the moment and I will get my licence next year, I have a 1967 Mk1 Mini Cooper s that I need to slightly restore.
It was my dad's first mini he had a lot of mini's, it's been sitting in a dry climate from about 1980.
It was going when my dad turn it off, he did not store it properly, I am wanting to make it a Sunday drive car and show car, from memory dad thinks it has done 70,000 miles on it, I'd like to know what areas I need to look at for it after 30 years (or 40 if I get to it in the next 10 years).
Jaxi.

Hi.
Scotty, thank you for helping me with that.
Dad wants me to keep it original, it's a long term project for me to do, my dads mechanic is dieing to see it soon (300km away will be hard to get to on every day).
How do I post pictures on this website so I can put a picture up.
It's also under a dozen twinshock trials bikes around there 80's as well.
Jaxi

The last time this mini's petrol tank was filled it took super petrol.
Is it acceptable to convert it or should I use little bottles from the petrol station?
Jaxi

Use 98 Unleaded or Premium and one of the commercial valve saver lubricants. If the head is being reconditioned it may be possible to have hardened valve inserts fitted for the exhaust valves.

Thanks very much Michaelb.
Dad says one of the silliest things he ever did was buy a brand new 1275 ls silver pound it right around Australia, basically destroy it, and then when he got home swap it for a 504 Peugeot.
But thank you very much.
Jaxi.

Sounds like an interesting collection your dad has.

It's really hard to say what the car will need done to it without knowing a bit more about the condition it was in when it was parked. Other things that will help include:
- Has the motor been turned over since being parked?
- Does the motor turn over?
- Have you tried the electrics at all?
- Does it have rust?

Some of the very basic things that it should be done include:
- Engine flushed & oil and filter changed
- Entire brake system overhaul including but not limited to new wheel cylinders and flexible brake lines, flush the old fluid out and replace
- Drain, and replace fuel, flush the tanks and replace rubber fuel lines
- Check all electrics - They may work, may need the connections cleaned, may need more major work
- Grease all the nipples
- Clutch may need attention - slave and master cylinder as well as new fluids
- Carburettor rebuild (may not need it, but wouldn't hurt)

The list could continue, but will depend on the condition of the car.

Hi Ryan.
The motor hasn't been turned over since it has been parked, I don't know if the motor will be able to turn over dad just said if there are keys for it it's yours, I haven't tried the electrics at all because it's behind a heap of junk in a shed, and it doesn't have rust.
Thank you for replying Ryan,
Jaxi.

I'm not 100% sure but using facebook as a host may not work as the permissions to see the picture may not allow it. It is not something you have done in posting the link on here as I copied and pasted the link directly into my browser and the image could still not be seen. Best to use something like photobucket.

Cheers
Steve

Jaxi,
I am also restoring a 67 Mk1 Cooper S. Its not my first restoration of a Cooper S and I have a fair idea of what should go where. It's nice to see the next generation taking an interest in restoration and preservation of these things. If you have any questions feel free to PM me, I'll be happy to help where I can.
Greg

Looks like marine or maybe indigo blue, with mk2 flares! You are one very lucky teenager, most of us old f@rts have had to excessively drink our lives away waiting to buy a genuine Cooper 'S'! :D

Indigo blue is the colour to have! 8)
