Hi everyone
Went for RWC today and one (!) of the points was my reversing light wasn't working

I have a 1976 leyland mini clubman (povo model) and I never knew it had a reversing light. Ok I have only owned a week but there doesn't seem to be a clear part on the rear light cluster.

Can someone enlighten me?

It wouldn't matter if it was working as the ball joints, engine mounts and rear brake cylinders all required " a little attention"

Gotta love minis eh!

Thanks guys

Rob

BOOM TISH!!

he's correct, both rear indicators should come on when in reverse - there's a switch on your gearstick housing, under the floor, or there should be

The ADR for reversing light came in about 71/72 (if I remember right) ... checked.. was ADR1 - 1 Jan 72 http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/pdf/01.pdf

So a 71 might not have them...

If your car still has original type gearbox (remote change) the switch is actually on the front of the gearbox...
If NOT fitted will have large hex plug as per this photo :
Image

If it has reverse lights - then will have a switch fitted there and some green wires ..
like this : http://www.classicmotoring.net.au/cmos/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_146&products_id=1280&zenid=f140ddd44cabc7206c2def3b60ebe388

and, of course - can check number of wires going to rear indicator if only 1 - no reverse, if 2 then has reverse...

(The 76 model will have the rod change gearbox and switch as Simon described...)

I have a 76……… I had the same problem when I came to road worthy my car.
Lucky for me the guy that did the road worthy is a mini mechanic so he let it slip…..mumbled something about getting the right bulbs….or something.
And yes the switch on my car is in the gear leaver…….

In saying that I did rego a old four wheel drive once and had fitted after market rear lights that did not have a reversing light.
I got away with putting in a reversing buzzer …… and the guy that did the road worthy did even question it.
So that might be a easier option ………check with your road worthy guy to see if you can have a buzzer instead of a light….
Cheers Neil

The rear indicator/rev lamp bulbs on a Clubby should be dual filament, 21/21W.

Hey guys
Just a quickie. Apart from mini spares are there any other good parts suppliers in Oz. Or do most people use mini sport UK?

Cheers again

To avoid numerous posts from people all telling you about their favourite Mini parts supplier I suggest you have a look here and decide yourself based on type of vehicle, location, cost, quality of the goods, delivery urgency, etc. They all have advantages and disadvantages. The forum is impartial.
