Hi there; does anybody know where I can pick up a fibreglass clubman front locally in Oz? I am looking at building another sports sedan and I don't have a front that I can mould off. Plenty of stuff available in the UK but bulky and expensive to ship.

I don't know where to get any but....can you use carbon fibre panels instead of fiberglass in race cars (CAMS approved)?

I have a brand new unused Fibreglass Bonnet which I had as spare when I did Speedway racing.

Hi there gents and thanks for your feedback. If the front and/or bonnet are for sale please let me know price and availability. We might be able to do a deal although I am in Melbourne and the front seems to be in Brisbane?

Yes you can use carbon but not worth the expense in this instance.

Regards, Brenton

Another sport sedan? Now you've got me interested. Any photos?

Simon Young from British Sporting Cars here in Bendigo can make you one if you have no luck buying one. He also has the moulds for the Eroll Platt flares as well.

Do they fit as good as his wide Mk2 flares Rookie??

I know where there are a couple of Gulson sports sedan fronts, brand new and unused. PM me with your number and I will pass it on to the guy that has them. Failing that I have 4 clubman fronts in the roof of my shed.

Cheers

Cam

This depends on the rules for the category. The only category in Australia where this is legal is Sports Sedans (Group 3D). The rules for this class make no distinction between materials. Sports Sedans rules have the basic assumption that the component is free, unless otherwise stated in the rules. Most other categories are the opposite - only components stated in the rules are free, everything else must remain unmodified or you have to use the control component (e.g. tyres, camshaft, gearbox).

If you want to build a track day car, do what you like, just make it safe.

Cam, sounds like you had problems. Did you take them back? I've bought the wide flares from them with no problems apart from the normal finishing before painting. I know they have a lot of moulds ex Northern mini parts. Moulds don't last forever so they may need some feedback. I'm building my own moulds at the moment only because I'm a tightarse.
