I have recently bought an Innocenti Mini 850 which wasn't running. I have now managed to get it started but it only runs on 2 cylinders (1 and 2).
There is a spark at all 4 plugs. I removed all 4 plugs and 1 and 2 were dry and sooty but 3 and 4 were wet with fuel. Obviously there is fuel and a spark going to all 4 cylinders but only burning at 1 and 2.
I am thinking it could be a faulty head gasket. At the moment I don't have a compression tester to confirm this.
The dizzy has not been touched. The plugs are all new. The points gap is correct. The spark is strong on all 4 cylinders.
Is there something that I am missing, could it be a problem with the timing?
Thanks

Do a compressions check, that all that's left. If it runs it muss have fuel, you've confermed spark, so compressions all that's left. Has it sat a long time, stuck valve (s)??

I have been caught so many times with the spark plug sequence...any chance? 1-3-4-2?

It has been stood for 8 years but the previous owner claims that it was running perfectly 3 months ago. Considering that the cluch pedal is rock solid and there is no pedal on the brakes, I am starting the think that it is actually 8 years since it was last running and being used.
The plug leads are in the correct order. I will do a compression test.
Thanks for the replies.
Rob

It probably was running perfectly 3 months ago..... on 2 cylinders!

Unless I know the person, I generally assume anyone trying to sell me something is bullshitting me, that way I'm never disappointed when it turns out they were actually bullshitting me

Very true! I knocked off €500 of the asking price because I expected to find a few problems. I have now found a valve seized.
