Anyone know when the front valance was changed to include the cut outs on the lower left and right hand sides?
1962 sometime?

I think it may have been later than that, about 1965 I think.

It was done to improve cooling to the twin Leading Shoe brakes.
My last 850 (which became `Redmond' featured in TME magazine) was built mid-64, it had the full valance still.

Yes, the end of 1964 is roughly the date.

If you need a new "full skirt" panel, try M-Machine. One thing to note is that all the new panels have incorrect mkIV indicator bases, they are too large.

Does this mean that many of the 997 & 998 Cooper's also had the full valance or skirt?
