I still have a problem, why is the gauge reading too high? I bought the gauge and sender as a kit and I have already replaced the voltage stabiliser with an IC unit. Can I add a resister to bring the temp display down?

What is the gauge? It could be faulty. Or it could the sender unit.

Is there a radiator that is big enough to ensure it won't overheat under any circumstances?

no - you could probably fill the whole car with water and use it as a radiator, and if something was wrong enough, it'd boil all of it eventually

I don't think anything is 'wrong' as such, the car doesn't boil coolant and it doesn't seem to go above three quarters on the gauge.

Will taking out the thermostat improve cooling?

Took this back to the start almost...here we go again

what voltage is coming out of the voltage regulator?

what resistance does the sender have to ground when empty?

what resistance does the sender have to ground when full?

He mentions the temp sensor Simon, but the same tests can be done with a pot of boiling water and a thermometer to calibrate the gauge.

I thought my car had been over heating for ages , gauge always showed 95-100 degrees but it never felt hot or smelt hot ( you all know what i mean) never lost any coolant nothing ...

i have a volt gauge in the car too and noticed that with my headlights on it would only read 10.5-11v
and only just 12.5 with no lights on ...
Changed my alternator , no improvement

added another earth strap and bingo 13.5 volts all the time

just goes to show that with out propper voltage electric gauges will never work

and my temp gauge shows a cold 75degrees all the time
Happy days

Cheers
Beanie

So we ruled out overheating. good
As beanie suggested do you have good voltage/earth if not track and fix
If all above is okay, as simon and morris have said check compatibility and servicability of both the sensor and the gauge-- and the wiring too if not sure

if you know the brand type of gauge and sender post them up i am sure someone will know the specs

Not good trying to do the right thing and fix a fault, and end up chasing your tail to no end.... hopeful for a solution for you soon
